About Nordweg
Nordweg is a chronicle of the Viking world: gods and sagas, runes and ships, daily life and doom. Written by people who do not just study that world - they give it music.
Why Nordweg exists
Nordweg is a project by musicians. Behind this blog stands the independent label Nordwald Records with its two artists, Domsgard and Eldruna. If you write songs about Odin, Ragnarok or the voyages of the longships, you inevitably spend long nights among Eddas, sagas and excavation reports. Out of that research grew more than lyrics: the wish to tell the stories behind the music properly, with care and depth.
To us, history and music belong together. The old sources give our songs their depth, and the music gives the old stories a voice people want to hear again today. Nordweg is where the two meet.
How we work
Every article on Nordweg is written along the original sources: the Poetic Edda, the Prose Edda of Snorri Sturluson, the Icelandic sagas, and the archaeological finds from Scandinavia and the old trade routes of the North. Where scholars disagree or the evidence runs thin, we say so openly instead of filling the gaps with fantasy.
Every article lists its sources at the end - so you can read on and check for yourself. Photos of historical finds come from free archives such as Wikimedia Commons and are always shown with credit.
The music behind it
If reading these pages leaves you longing for the North: there is a soundtrack for that.
